Sound Circles
My Sound Circles are participatory.
I believe in our innate healing power and that our own sound vibrations (including singing) are profoundly transformative and can lead us to epiphanies and free our voices. It is especially nourishing, creating soundscapes together in community. And can be so much fun, or so gentle, or so profound. Sound is so expressive.
So at my Sound Circles, you will be an active participant. You can express yourself as gently or wildly as you wish to or feel on the night. Everything is by invitation.
I do a variety of versions of a sound circle, and attempt to mix them up so that we explore something different each time.
I have a range of tambourines and egg shakers, so that we can accompany our voices.
We always sing around the fire. Folks bring their drums, guitars, violins, saxophones, percussion instruments or gorgeous voices and we have a lovely sing-a-long. It was beautiful.
You are welcome to bring your own instruments and/or song to share.
Last month, we conducted our Sound Circle around the fire. It was so incredible and nourishing, that I am planning to do the same on Saturday. Our dance ends around 8:30/45pm and then we have plenty of time to share a sound circle and socialise around the fire. We need to leave Gaunts House by 10pm.
We start with a brief explanation, followed by breathing and vocal exercises to warm us up. Then we go into various sound and vocal group expressions. This includes:
- Round robin (where one person starts with a vocal and beat, joined in by others and then end slowly one by one like dominoes)
- Call and response
- Rooted and ancestral chants
- Rainbow songs
- Sacred sound circles (which I first did impromptu at FreeZone last year - it was incredible!). Not planned for Saturday.
- The group also suggest songs/vocal expressions that we all can join in.
My main thoughts are that we are all creative beings and that we can express our creativity in our dance, in our art, in our songs and support one another in community.
No matter your skills level, remember when we were children and we used to hum a tune or sing our favourite melody, connect to that, and let all inhibitions dissipate.
Sing your songs, connect to the land, join your voices in chorus and allow the vibrations of your own sound to move you.
You can be as serious or playful as you wish to.
Let's uplift one another through joining our voices and singing under the starlit sky.
You are also very welcome to bring a artwork to display on our stage. Nature is in her full awakening glory, displaying her creative wonder and splendor. So you are also invited to either create something in our Creative Corner - a drawing, a poem, some lyrics - or share a creative talent with the Dance Community.
I am looking forward to dancing with you.
